The eight-member ensemble was led by Wallace Henry Hartley, who drew on selections from The White Star Line Songbook. The White Star Line repertoire included 341 items, including light overtures, intermezzi, waltzes, marches, arias, sacred music, and potpourris. Despite this, neither the hymn “Autumn”, nor the closest version to it, waltz “Song d’Automne”, were in the White Star Line songbook for the band. This remains the best testimonial as Bride was the only person who could have possibly heard the band’s last song. The song was a selection in the White Star Line songbook in the early 1900s, and could have possibly been played aboard the RMS Titanic during its ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912. The tune continued to be in the repertoire of jazz bands decades later, with artists such as the New Orleans Rhythm Kings in the 1920s, and Sidney Bechet in the 1930s.
